Be A Girl Scout LeaderFollow these simple steps. Start today Step 1: Download the Application & Download the reference form. Give a Reference form to three non-relatives who know you. Step 2: Complete and sign the application and send it to council at the Girl Scout Council of Greater Essex and Hudson Counties, 120 Valley Road, Montclair, NJ 0742, Attn: Volunteer Services. Have your references send their form there, too. Maureen Dowd is the contact. S Step 3b: The next step is Orientation which is taken before you can hold GS meetings. It is offered in two ways: at an orientation session facilitated by a staff member or volunteer trainer, or through a take-home booklet and quiz. In your Appointment Packet you will find a booklet/quiz called Getting Started in Girl Scouting. If you prefer the take-home version, review the booklet and complete the quiz Return the quiz along with your New Volunteer Agreement to council. You are now appointed for a one year term (October 1 - September 30) contingent upon the completion of your trainings. Step 4: You complete your Basic Leadership Training (BLT) within three months of being appointed. Step 5: You complete your Program Age Level (Daisy, Brownie, Junior or older girl) training. (PAL) within three months of being appointed. There! You've ascended the steps and are now an officially appointed Girl Scout leader for the Girl Scout Council of Greater Essex and Hudson Counties.
