Girl Scout Gold Award

Dear Senior and Cadette Girl Scouts,
Greetings from the Council Gold Award Committee!

As Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts who may be interested in earning the Gold Award, we wish to explain the revised requirements and guidelines from GSUSA.

In order to improve the caliber and consistency of applications, a committee of volunteers and Council staff has been working to improve the Girl Scout Gold Award application process. This letter will explain an overview of these guidelines and changes.

We hope this helps with your planning. Planning Ahead is the Key to a successful Gold Award Project. More details are given at the Gold Award Workshop and you can always consult the committee.

Step Activity Timeline
ORGANIZE
  • Attend a Gold Award Workshop – check Happenings or call Council for dates.
  • With a troop/group advisor work out a timeline for completing Steps 1 – 5.
  • Develop a Gold Award Project idea.
  • Consider candidates for Gold Advisors.
1 to 3 years before project
LEAD
  • Earn It: Three Interest Projects related to parts of the Law.
  • Take Charge: Earn Studio 2B: Take Charge.
  • Lead It: 30 hours of leadership.
  • Put It Together: Answer a series of questions on what you learned about leadership
1 to 3 years before project
NETWORK
  • Complete 40 hours of Career Exploration activities. (See GS Gold Career Award.)
  • Journal your experiences.
1 to 3 years before project
EXPLORE Complete GS 4B's Challenge
  • Become- Career Goals.
  • Belong – Community Involvement.
  • Believe – Vision Statement.
  • Build – Skills.
At least six months before project.
CREATE Obtain a Gold Award Advisor

Plan your GS Gold Award Project

  • Plan It: Identify project issue.
  • Know More About It: Research issue.
  • Choose It: Brainstorm solutions.
  • Budget It: Funding sources.
  • Map It: Detailed project timeline.
At least two weeks prior to submittal of proposal.
 
  • Complete Gold Award Proposal application.
  • Review proposal with advisor and leader.
Minimum: Six weeks prior to start of project
 
  • Submit proposal to Council Gold Award Committee for review.

(E-mail is the preferred method of submittal.)

During six week review cycle.
 
  • Answer committee questions.
  • Interview with committee (optional).
AFTER the six week review cycle
TAKE ACTION
  • Upon approval of the council committee, start project
Minimum 65 hours
 
  • Put your plan into action.
  • Adjust timeline as necessary.
  • Log actual time spent on each activity.
After completion of project
REFLECT
  • Complete Gold Award Final Report.
  • Submit Report to Council.
Two weeks after submittal of report
 
  • Receive council final approval
 

REMEMBER we all want to see as many Girl Scouts earn their Gold Award as possible by working together, girls and adults, to make these worthwhile projects and learning experiences.
